Develop educational tools, toys, and aids for teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) for students with special needs in pre-K to 12th grade. Everyone should benefit from engineering and its application to education.

The Goal

The products that will be developed by STEM Engine have been inspired by the belief that everyone should benefit from engineering and its application to education. More specifically, the purpose of this organization is to Develop educational tools, toys, and aids for teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) for students with special needs in pre-K to 12th grade.

Develop products that specifically support the learning of STEM subjects for students with special needs: Currently, there are various technologies available to help adults who may have special needs. But these technologies are not necessarily intended for children with special needs who are learning STEM subjects. The products that will be developed by STEM Engine will fill this gap.

Develop an engineering talent pool specifically for this area of work: The products that will be developed by STEM Engine require specific expertise that is currently missing from engineering education. Internships for engineering students will promote a disciplinary area that focuses on filling this gap.

Bring together expertise from education and technology: Today, there are many experts who work with students who have special needs. There are also many technical experts who have the ability to develop products that meet such needs. But these two experts rarely communicate to identify and develop tools, toys, and aids for assisting students who have special needs in learning STEM subjects. STEM Engine brings together experts from these two areas to fill this need.
